Nagnath Temple is one of the oldest temples in Champawat district which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The word "Nagnath" in Nagnath temple is made up of two words "Nag" and "Nath", in which 'Nag' in English means "Snake" and 'Nath' is referred to as "Lord Shiva". One who had a fondness for snakes and wore it around his neck like a priceless jewel.The Nagnath temple was built by Guru Gorakhnath, a famous sage of the hills. The temple has a two-storey wooden structure with a carved door, which represents the Kumaoni architectural style.The temple was partially destroyed by Gorkha and Rohilla invaders in the 18th century, but at present this temple is in a better condition than before.
